Knapp's Relational Development Model
Knapps relational development model is shown as a ten step process broken into two parts. It also suggests that these ten steps should be done all at once, in order, to make sure they are done correctly and will be effective. As i was looking at and reading about Kapps model I took the steps and put them into my own life with a romantic relationship that just ended.
Online communication has ruined a lot my friends relationships and I didn't think much of it until it happened to me and made me realize that communicating online is all we really know how to do. Talking in person or meeting up to hang out is the old thing to do and texting or calling or emailing is the new normal. Everyone saves the 'coming together' part of Knapps model for the first couple times you meet someone and try and show you care then once you hit 'relational maintenance' people stop trying and rely on texting and online communication because its easier and takes less effort. Once that happens the 'coming apart' stage occurs and the relationship ends up dying all together.
As i said before online communication is the new normal and it ends up ruining most types of relationships, in my experience, because people just stop trying and resort to texting you once every couple hours to show they 'care'. Knapps development model I believe is right on point with how any type of relationship goes. Most relationships end and in this case it is because of important the online community is to some people and how much easier it is to use.
